“how far does this change align with the original teachings?”

“how far does this change align with the original teachings?”

Who cares? The “original teachings” are outdated ethics and open to interpretation. Most experts agree the biblical references to “homosexuality” are actually about the practise of pederasty conducted by cultures like ancient Greece. Homosexuality as we understand it today, a consenting and loving relationship between two adults, wasn’t much of a thing in the ancient biblical region (eastern Mediterranean.)

“The Bible describes homosexuality as a sin”

Again, so what? See above.

“many Christian churches today support same-sex marriage and LGBTQ rights”

As they should. Sexual orientation has been conclusively scientifically proven to be biological and immutable. Same sex relationships cause no harm. There is no valid reason to discriminate against LGBT+ people. Those supportive churches are doing the right thing and putting people first. They’re showing compassion and following the facts. Anti-LGBT sentiment is hate and bigotry disguised as zealotry.
