Trump puts schools ‘on notice’: Pushing transgenderism is ‘child abuse’

WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — President Donald Trump issued a stark warning on Monday to public schools to stop encouraging “gender transitions” for confused students or face consequences.
Speaking from the White House Rose Garden during a back-to-school event with U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, the president lamented the “extreme ideologies” such as “transgender insanity” that have taken root in schools in recent years.
“Transgender didn’t work. Students were taught that our heroes are villains. The FBI was used to target patriotic parents at school board meetings. And meanwhile, far too many government-run schools failed at the basics,” he said. “Under the Trump administration, we’re systematically ending every single one of these radical-left betrayals and we’re putting the parents back in charge. They’re the ones that love our children. They’re the ones that should be in charge.”
“Every public school in America is now on notice: That if they tell a child that they are trapped in the wrong body, they are committing child abuse,” he declared.
“This school year, American parents and students have so much to be excited about because the Trump administration is steering education back to its rightful focus: serving students so that they are prepared for successful futures,” McMahon agreed, going on to reiterate that “after the Biden administration allowed schools to secretly ‘transition’ students without parents’ knowledge, President Trump is defending parental rights like never before.”
The Biden administration took a hardline stance that transgender procedures were a “best practice” and even that it was “cruel” and “sinful” to prevent children from being subjected to puberty blockers or transgender surgeries.
Upon returning to office, one of Trump’s earliest executive actions was an order that ended all federal financial support for “transition” procedures on minors, rescinded or amended all of the Biden health bureaucracy’s past endorsements of underage “transitioning,” and called for a review of the medical literature on the subject, enforcing all existing restrictions on underage “transitioning” and taking regulatory action to “end” the practice to the greatest extent possible under current law. The administration has also used federal purse strings to curb transgender ideology in classroom instruction, sex-specific athletic programs, and access to intimate facilities such as restrooms and lockers.
A large body of evidence sides firmly with the Trump approach, finding that “affirming” gender confusion carries serious harms, especially when done with impressionable children who lack the mental development, emotional maturity, and life experience to consider the long-term ramifications of the decisions being pushed on them, or full knowledge about the long-term effects of life-altering, physically transformative, and often irreversible surgical and chemical procedures.
In 2024, National Health Service (NHS) England’s landmark Cass Review found that “gender medicine” is “built on shaky foundations” and that “[w]hile a considerable amount of research has been published in this field, systematic evidence reviews demonstrated the poor quality of the published studies, meaning there is not a reliable evidence base upon which to make clinical decisions, or for children and their families to make informed choices.”
In April, a study of “all under-23-year-old gender-referred individuals between 1996 and 2019” in Finland (2,083 people) found that those who had gone through “gender transitions” had “markedly higher psychiatric morbidity [other mental health issues] than controls before and after referral, with treatment needs often persisting and even intensifying after medical interventions.”

Many oft-ignored “detransitioners,” individuals who suffered under “transitioning” before embracing their sex, attest to the physical and mental harm of reinforcing gender confusion, as well as to the bias and negligence of the medical establishment on the subject, many of whom take an activist approach to their profession and begin cases with a predetermined conclusion in favor of “transitioning.”
“Gender-affirming” physicians have also been caught on video admitting to more old-fashioned motives for such procedures, as with an 2022 exposé about Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s “Clinic for Transgender Health,” where Dr. Shayne Sebold Taylor said outright that “these surgeries make a lot of money.”
